Cebu's Puto Maya

Visiting places, we couldn't get out of that place without tasting their famous delicacies. In this case, here in Philippines, especially in Cebu, we have this famous rice cake that will surely be one of the reasons to make your Cebu experience more memorable. It has been a tradition in most provinces to eat morning snacks early in the morning before eating breakfast. Some eat hot bread paired with coffee or milk but some are still looking for this delicacy that I'm sure also travelers would like to try.


This delicacy I am talking about is no other than the Puto Maya of Cebu. Puto Maya is a type of rice cake originated in Cebu that is made of glutinous rice, ginger and coconut milk. This is mostly sold in the public markets of every town and municipalities.


For this article, I want to show you some steps and processes in making this famous rice cake in Cebu.


Ingredients

5 cups of Glutinous Rice (Pilit)

4 cups of Coconut Milk

Sugar

Salt

Ginger


Procedure

1. Rinse the rice with running water 2-3 times or as long as the water is already clear then drain it very well and set aside.

2. In a pot, mix the sugar, salt and ginger to the coconut milk. Estimate the amount of sugar and salt to make it taste good.

3. After mixing the other ingredients , mix the rice in it and turn on the gas stove in a very low heat.

4. Stir the ingredients thoroughly until there's no more coconut milk in it and if it's already sticky.

5. Cover the pot and lower the heat more.

6. After some more minutes, it's ready to be served and is best to serve with "Sikwate"



This is just one easy way of making and preparing Puto Maya, there's still more other ways that you want to try. For now, don't waste your time and try making the Cebu's Famous Puto Maya.
